Warnings

Data on energy balance, electricity coverage, installed capacity for electricity generation, refining capacity, electricity generation by source, reserves, CO2 emissions and indicators for 2021 for the 27 countries of Latin America and the Caribbean are now available in the sieLAC database.

The monthly hydrocarbon supply and demand data do not include Mexico.

  Barbados:

  • The supply and demand information for 2020 and 2021 was reviewed and updated
  • Kerosene information is subject to revision by the country.

 

 Belize:

  • Data for 2020 and 2021 were reviewed and updated based on information provided by the Ministry of Public Service, Energy and Public Utilities.
  • The consumption data of cane bagasse in the industrial sector for the year 2021, are subject to review by the country.

 

Bolivia:

  • The series of Energy Balances for the period 2000 - 2021 was updated.
  • The series of installed capacity and electricity generation for the period 2000 - 2021 was updated, including data from the SIN, Isolated Systems and Autoproducers.
  • Oil and natural gas reserves data for 2020 and 2021 corresponds to the last 2018 certification.
  • The electricity coverage series was updated for the period 2000 - 2021.

 

  Brazil:

  • The 2020 Balance was reviewed and updated based on the information provided by the country's Ministry of Mines and Energy. 

 

 Colombia:

  • The 2020 energy balance was reviewed and updated based on the information provided by the Energy Mining Planning Unit (UPME).

 Cuba:

  • The 2020 data were updated based on the Statistical Yearbook of Cuba 2021, Mining and Energy, Edition 2022 published by ONEI.
  • 2021 energy balance estimated by OLADE.

 

Chile:

  • The energy balance for 2020 was updated based on official information provided by the Chilean Ministry of Energy.
  • The supply and demand data for 2021 correspond to OLADE estimates, which are subject to revision by the country
  • Information on oil and natural gas reserves was updated for the period 2010 - 2020.

 

  Costa Rica:
  • The series of Energy Balances for the period 2016-2021 was updated.
  • The 2020 electric coverage data corresponds to the 2019 reference year; since no fieldwork was done in 2020 due to the pandemic.


  Ecuador:

  • The energy balances for the period 2000 - 2020 were updated. There are important changes in the structure of final energy consumption.


  El Salvador:

  • The 2021 energy balance data was provided by the General Superintendence of Electricity and Telecommunications - SIGET and by the National Energy Council - CNE.
 
  Grenada:
  • The supply and demand data for 2020 and 2021 corresponds to estimates made by OLADE and are subject to revision by the country.

  

  Guatemala

  • The data on installed electricity capacity for the period 2000 - 2021, electricity generation for the period 2005 - 2021; and electricity coverage for the period 2004 - 2021 were updated.

 

  Guyana:  

  • As of 2020 Guyana exports oil.
  • Non-energy consumption increased significantly in 2020 due to increased exploration and exploitation activities. 
  • The 2021 Energy Balance corresponds to estimates made by OLADE, subject to review by the country.


 Honduras:

  • Installed capacity and electricity generation data were updated for the period 2003 - 2021.
  • Electrical coverage 2021 preliminary data.
  • * As of 2017, the methodology that improves the estimate of firewood consumption is modified.
  • As of 2019, the electricity coverage calculation methodology was changed, which is now carried out by the Energy Secretariat. And consider the electricity service provided by a distribution network.


  Haiti:

  • The supply and demand data for the period 2000-2021 corresponds to estimates made by OLADE, subject to revision by the country.
  • The electricity coverage information for the period 2000 - 2020 was reviewed and updated.

  

  Jamaica:

  • The energy balances for the years 2019 and 2020 were updated.

 

  Mexico:

  • The data of the 2021 energy balance are preliminary and correspond to estimates made by OLADE based on the information collected from the official sites of the energy sector of Mexico.
  • The energy supply and demand data correspond to information published in SENER's energy balance sheets.

 

  

      Nicaragua:

    • The energy balances for the period 2002-2020 were reviewed and updated.
    • The supply and demand data for 2021 corresponds to preliminary information provided by the Ministry of Energy and Mines and is subject to revision by the country.

     

      Panama:

    • The data for the period 2018 -2021 was updated based on the official information provided by the Ministry of Energy of Panama.

     

      Paraguay:

    • The 2021 data was updated based on official information provided by the VMME - MOPC.

      Peru:

    • The supply and demand data for 2021 correspond to estimates made by OLADE and are subject to revision by the country..


      Dominican Republic:

    • The 2019 - 2020 energy balance data is preliminary and subject to change and corresponds to estimates made by OLADE based on information gathered from the official websites of the Dominican Republic's energy sector.
    • The electricity coverage data for the period 2000 – 2019 were updated based on information published in the National Energy Information System – CNE and are preliminary.
    • The electrical coverage data for 2020-2021 corresponds to the year 2019.

     

      Suriname:

    • The 2020 and 2021 supply and demand data correspond to estimates made by OLADE and are subject to review by the country.

     

      Trinidad & Tobago:

    • The 2020 and 2021 supply and demand data is preliminary and is subject to review by the country.

     

      Uruguay:

    • The energy balances for the period 2010-2021 were updated based on official information provided by the National Energy Directorate of Uruguay.
    • The electricity coverage data for 2020 corresponds to 2019, since the INE did not disclose the information of E.C.H. 2020 (by pandemic).

     

      Venezuela:

    • The data for the period 2014 - 2017 are preliminary figures and estimates; and are subject to review and update.
    • As of 2018, the data is estimated by OLADE.


    The Energy Information System for Latin America and the Caribbean - sieLAC integrates, processes and disseminates statistical, prospective and socioeconomic information on the energy sector of OLADE's 27 Member Countries, based on standardized methodologies and concepts that allow for the consolidation of country information by subregion and for the region, facilitating comparative analysis among them.  

    The sieLAC integrates the following modules: LAC, World and Socioeconomic Statistics; making information on the different phases of the energy chain available to users on an annual or monthly basis from 1970 to the present, organized as follows:
